There are ways in which “We” as “The People” are on our own which our forbears never contended with. Maybe it’s a matter of degree; after all, this “long march” and its attritions have been underway a long time. Closing in on the endgame, it follows that the betrayal by our corrupted institutions becomes more starkly apparent. Cover is thinner now, but also — this is a bit different — they have less to hide, less to worry about from exposure. The implicit taunt is, What can You, The People, do about it, anyway? There is not much to say as we are stripped of our patrimony in every form, from country to culture, from sovereignty to identity, while no vested authority, no power of any kind, seems able or willing to do more than stanch some bleeding here and there, thereby enabling the excruciating vivisection to continue.
